Project Mumway is designed to celebrate creativity, school spirit, and the talented homecoming mum-making community in a positive, welcoming, and exciting environment.
We want to see new and experienced mum makers, young and seasoned creators, business owners, hobbyists, and first-time competitors. We wouldn't be surprised to see teams made up of friends, family members, or even a group of moms looking for a fun and memorable day together!
Team Structure
Teams may consist of 2 or 3 members.
Team names will not be used, as we want to recognize and celebrate the individual talent and creativity of each competitor.
Matching outfits are welcome but not required.
Build Your Brand
Competitors are encouraged to promote themselves, their businesses, and their sponsors before, during, and after the competition.
Before the Event
Announce your participation on social media.
Introduce your team members and sponsors.
Build excitement and engage your audience.
During the Event
Go live throughout the event to share your experience with followers.
Capture photos and videos of your progress.
Highlight your creativity, techniques, and teamwork.
Promote your sponsors during your livestreams.
After the Event
Share your completed designs.
Post competition highlights and behind-the-scenes content.
Celebrate your accomplishments and showcase your work.
Sponsorship Opportunities
Sponsorships can help offset supply costs while providing additional exposure for both competitors and supporting businesses.
Teams are responsible for obtaining and promoting their own sponsors. Sponsorship promotion is encouraged before and during the event. Teams may decorate their competition area with sponsor information and promote sponsors during livestreams and social media content.
Please note that some sponsorships may be declined if they create a conflict of interest with the hosting store. These situations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Team Costs & Supplies
Team Entry Cost
$300 per team (not per individual).
Supply Requirements
Supplies used during the competition must be purchased from Smith's during the competition timeframe.
Each team member may bring:
1 pair of scissors
1 stapler with staples
1 hot glue gun with glue sticks
1 measuring tape or measuring mat
1 cell phone stand
Competitors may keep all purchased supplies.
Unused supplies may be carried into the Final Round if the team advances.
Teams advancing to the Final Round will retain their assigned school colors and theme.
Ribbon by the yard will be available for purchase in the store. Teams may choose whether to purchase full rolls or pre-cut ribbon.
Each team should create an information sheet to display on their table that includes:
Team members' names
Location
Business name(s)
Sponsor information
This information may be highlighted during event livestreams and announcements.
What the Competition Provides
Each team will receive:
One standard competition table
2–3 chairs
Dedicated extension cord access
A 15% off store coupon valid during the event
A model to wear the completed mum during the runway presentation
Opportunities to participate in fun bonus challenges that may provide small competitive advantages
Preliminary Rounds
There will be two preliminary rounds:
Morning Preliminary
Afternoon Preliminary
Afternoon spots will be reserved first for teams traveling from outside the area.
For each preliminary round, teams will receive:
10 minutes to set up
15 minutes to brainstorm after receiving their assignment
2.5 hours to shop, design, and complete a mum or garter

Teams will receive one randomly assigned school:

Teams will learn both their school and theme assignments 15 minutes before the competition begins.
Final Round
The top two teams from the Morning Preliminary and the top two teams from the Afternoon Preliminary will advance to the Final Mumway.
Teams will keep their preliminary round assigned school colors.
A final wheel spin will determine one additional design element.

The Final Round is designed to challenge creativity, adaptability, craftsmanship, and school spirit while allowing competitors to showcase their highest level of talent.
Competition Schedule
Morning Preliminary
7:45 AM – Teams arrive and set up
8:00–8:15 AM – Theme and school assignments with brainstorming time
8:15–10:45 AM – Shopping and building time
10:45 AM–11:15 PM – Morning Mumway and announcement of top two teams
Afternoon Preliminary
12:30 PM – Teams arrive and set up
12:45–1:00 PM – Theme and school assignments with brainstorming time
1:00–3:30 PM – Shopping and building time
3:30–4:00 PM – Afternoon Mumway and announcement of top two teams
Dinner Break
4:00–5:15 PM
Final Round
5:15 PM – Finalists arrive and set up
5:15–5:30 PM – Final design element assignment and planning time
5:30–8:00 PM – Final build
8:15–8:45 PM – Final Mumway
8:45 PM – Awards and winner photos
Rules & Judging
A copy of the judging criteria will be provided upon registration.
Judges will interact with contestants throughout the competition.
One judge is Viral Mums.
One judge will be selected by Smith's.
One judge will be selected from outside the mum-making community.
Competition Rules
All supplies, except the approved personal tools, must be purchased from Smith's.
Cutting machines and electronic cutting devices are not permitted.
Mum and garter sizes are unlimited.
Competitors have 2.5 hours total to shop, create, and finish their design.
Shopping may continue throughout the entire competition period.
When time expires, all work must stop immediately.
Projects will be judged exactly as they appear when time is called.
Everything in the store is available for purchase.
Everything purchased belongs to the team and goes home with them.
Foul, rude, negative or bad attitudes are not permitted, and if it becomes an issue, teams could be disqualified from the event.
Media & Promotion
Self-promotion is encouraged, before, during and after the event.
Livestreaming is encouraged with no blackout times during the day.
Photos and videos may be taken before, during, and after the event.
Teams members may bring phone stands for a hands-free competition
Outside individuals may not assist with filming or holding recording equipment.
Team Formation
Teams must consist of 2 or 3 competitors.
If you need help finding teammates, contact Megan and she will help connect you with participants in your area.
Awards
Each member of the winning team will receive:
A gift basket
A plaque
A bouquet of flowers
A large winner's crown
Advancement
The top two teams from each preliminary round will advance to the Final Mumway.
If a qualifying team cannot compete in the Final Round, judges may promote another team or continue with fewer finalists.
Registration
Team registration opens:
Thursday, June 18 at 7:00 PM
Registration will begin through a Google Form and will hold your spot for up to three days.
Full payment of $300 per team must be received within three days to secure your registration.

Project Mumway reserves the right to deny or remove a team from participation
if organizers believe the competitors do not align with the event's goal of maintaining a fun, friendly, and positive competition environment.
